5 Minutes, 5 Questions With…
Mimi Jenkins, author of I Am My Mother’s Daughter
(Mindstir Media)
“I Am My Mother’s Daughter” centers on Jocelyn, a paralegal by day and club dancer by night. She gets caught up in the attention she gets from dancing – not to mention the huge tips and extravagant life style. Men love her and women hate her.
When a stranger walks in the club and invites her to his hotel, things go down hill. Her life turns into a living nightmare that spirals out of control. She is forced to perform in ways that make her feel numb to the ways of the world.
Joey Pinkney: Where did you get the inspiration to write “I Am My Mother’s Daughter“?
Mimi Jenkins: Inspiration. Wow, good question. The characters involved in “I Am My Mother’s Daughter” have been floating around in my head for well over twenty years.
As a young girl, I read a lot of Nancy Drew books (“Hardy Boys”). From there, graduated to Harlequin Romance books. I drew my inspiration from those books and the love of writing. I am a true romantic at heart.
JP: What sets “I Am My Mother’s Daughter” apart from other books in the same genre?
MEJ: I want “I Am My Mother’s Daughter” to inspire young women to never give up on life no matter how difficult it may seem. We all go through trials and tribulations. We have all sinned and came short of pleasing the Lord. But He does forgive all sinners. If anything, our sinful ways and actions are lessons learned.
Learn from your mistakes, never look back and keep pressing forward. Do not let other folk negative comments stop you from developing your strength and spiritual growth.
JP: As an author, what are the keys to your success that led to “I Am My Mother’s Daughter” getting out to the public?

We have all sinned and came short of pleasing the Lord, but He does forgive all sinners. If anything, our sinful ways and actions are lessons learned.

JP: As an author, what is your writing process? How long did it take you to start and finish “I Am My Mother’s Daughter“?
MEJ: I am not the kind of writer that writes things down on paper and then types it on the computer. I have to actually be sitting at the computer and let the words flow.
After I actually got the support from my husband, it took me about three months to complete “I Am My Mother’s Daughter”. My brain does not work like every one else. I do things a little backwards and work my way forward.
JP: What’s next for Mimi Jenkins?
MEJ: Perhaps a series that centers around the other characters in “I Am My Mother’s Daughter”. My mom has a compelling story about her life that I want to start working on and get published.
My main idea behind writing; even though fiction, will focus on inspiring women (and men) of all ages. I am not just going to cater to a specific age group, in the near future, my work will also focus on teens.
