Do you think more racial boundaries would break if more people were to date or marry interracially?
Tanya White: Yes, I believe that. The more diversity we see amongst marriages, communities and churches, then the more racial boundaries would diminish.
Dedan Tolbert: I think that many racial boundaries would be broken if people were more comfortable dating outside their race. I believe that men and women are more than justified in dating people of other races. No one should be put down or called derogatory terms like “sell out” for the choices they make when it comes to finding a mate. True love is hard enough to find without putting all types of stipulations on it.
When I see beautiful black women with white men, it doesn’t bother me at all especially if they look happy. I’m not going to hate on that white man. In fact, I’m going to give him props because he must be doing his thing to keep a beautiful black sister like that. If anything, seeing something like that would only motivate me to continue doing my thing and maybe even step my game up.
Cassandra Washington: Absolutely not. There are a lot of people dating and marrying interracially right now, and race is still an issue. As long as we are on this green earth, race will unfortunately be the elephant in the room because of the global society we live in. It’s a vicious cycle.
We have made waves and strides, but the struggle still continues. The problem just isn’t interracial. It’s within races as well. Light skin versus Dark skin, the issue is still here. It’s going to take a lot of effort for it to go away. Bottom line, people should love who they want to love and be with who they want to be with, regardless of race.
Big Boom: No, it could make it worst because some people can never get past the thought. However, interracial friends can actually help break the boundaries.

We’ve always have I/R dating going on, it just hasn’t been as public as it is now.
i used to see a lot of them at the baseball games hanging out, loving on each other in the bleachers and though I had not dated another guy other than black I wondered why were people so mezmerized by them? they looked like two people who loved each other.
(I especially liked the older I/R couples)
Race issues won’t go away ever. We’re always going to have some controversy and people who care that there are race issues need the drama because they’re so unhappy about their own lives.

I strongly agree with Cassandra, although all the responses were helpful. We are still dealing with light vs dark skinned toned people. I hope we can get pass this as a whole. Get rid of the slavery mentalities, like Martin Luther King Jr. King desired for all races to unite and accept each person for what they are, not what they look like.
God created us, not man…we just procreate…but we do not have to re-create the hatred against the unknown (even if it pertains to the color of our skin). Fear is one element of the problem, when we fear the unknown, we can act out negatively with hate-anger-destructive behaviors. We have to see beyond the outside, this person may be the love of our life by searching within.
Yes, unfortunately it’s an issue that’s going to take more than alot of folks becoming involved in intimate relationships with other races. Racial boundaries aren’t just in relationships, it’s in the workplace (good ol’ corporate america), it’s in the community (media, activism), it’s on such a bigger scale than relationships. I feel if we start breaking those boundaries down first, then the rest will follow. Barack winning presidency was a perfect example of racial boundaries beginning to be chipped away. By such a massive stride in the struggle, and with an overwhelming amount of non-african american voters in support of his election, things like that, will help racial boundaries to dissipate much more quickly. In my opinion at least 🙂
I enjoyed what everyone had to say though, and every opinion expressed by Boom, Tanya, Dedan, Sylvia and Adrienna were very valid and I most definitely see where you are comin from 🙂
Okay, time for my mid-morning snack (trying to eat 6 times a day 🙂

As far as racial boundaries, interracial dating/marriages won’t break any racial boundaries. It’s not the lack of dating nor marriages that is the foundation of the racism we experience in America.
It’s the lack of respect. I don’t need to see a mixed couple to respect you. I just need to respect you.
